Neighborhood Alliance Gets Results!
More than 345 neighborhood associations in communities throughout central Oklahoma utilize the programs and services of the Alliance to insure their neighborhoods stay safe and attractive.
The Alliance:
- Sponsors National Night Out, an annual crime prevention awareness campaign.
- Assists neighborhoods in applying for grant funds to create beautification or safety programs that benefit their neighborhood.
- Helped Oklahoma City take a giant step through the efforts of Neighborhood Action, an affiliate of Neighborhood Alliance, when city residents voted for increased police and fire protection. Thanks to this funding, the OKC Fire Department had the special ladder trucks necessary to respond to the April 19th, 1995, bombing tragedy.
- Pioneered a pilot neighborhood redevelopment program in the Paseo Neighborhood that has received a positive review by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Other neighborhoods are able to use this program as a model for zoning and redevelopment.
- Has helped improve community standards by working for solid, sensible ordinance development, good planning and zoning.
Funding & Staffing
The annual budget of the Alliance is $120,000. More than 60% of this funding is provided by neighborhoods, individuals, businesses and grants.
Alliance activities are carried out by volunteers, board members, interns, and two staff members.
